Ms. Tan Eng Ai was the first Singaporean to be awarded teaching diplomas from both the RAD and ISTD Dance Examination Boards, and is a Registered Teacher with these UK-government recognized dance-awarding bodies in England.

She has 39 years of dance teaching experience in Malaysia and Singapore, and has produced and choreographed for all the dance concerts by our school. Besides teaching and preparing pupils for their annual examinations, Ms. Tan coaches trainee-teachers towards their professional teaching examinations and qualifications.

Ms. Tan currently holds appointment as a RAD Practical Teaching Supervisor. She assesses the practical teaching of trainee-teachers enrolled in the RAD's Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies ( CBTS ) programme.

 
 


Miss Teo Ching Ching was recently appointed as a RAD Examiner. She holds a Master of Arts ( MA ) degree in Dance from UCLA and a Bachelor of Arts ( Honours ) degree in Dance from the University of Buckingham. She was awarded UCLA Fellowships and National Arts Council ( NAC ) Overseas Arts Bursaries towards her post-graduate studies in the USA. Miss Teo is a Registered Teacher of the RAD and ISTD, with diplomas from both examination boards.

Her ballet choreography has won Gold and Silver Awards at the Singapore Youth Festival ( SYF ) Central Judging for Dance. She has created dances for concerts staged by Palais Dance Studio, Methodist Girls School ( Primary & Secondary ) and Paya Lebar Methodists Girls School ( Primary ).

Miss Teo has choreographed and performed in professional productions by the Singapore Lyric Opera, displaying her flair in flamenco ( "Carmen" 1998 & 2002 ) and the waltz, character dance, cakewalk and can-can ( "The Merry Widow" 2004 ).

Appointed as the first RAD Practical Teaching Supervisor in Singapore in 2001, Miss Teo had the privilege & responsibility of assessing the teaching of trainee-teachers working on their RAD & university validated teaching qualifications.

She has worked as a Tutor for the RAD Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies ( CBTS ) programme since it was introduced to our region in 2005. Miss Teo has assessed RAD trainee ballet teachers in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines in their distance-learning studies. She has also conducted Intensive Study Period ( ISP) for CBTS students in this region.

 
 

Palais Dance Studio has been a venue for the RAD Summer Schools, since they were first offered in Singapore in 1989.

In the year 2000 Summer School, 7 pupils of Ms. Tan and Miss Teo were selected for the OKH Dance Scholarship Classes. In the past decade, we have hosted the RAD Summer School in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006 & 2008.

Palais Dance Studio is the national, centralised venue for the annual RAD Vocational Graded Examinations. Candidates from ballet schools all over Singapore do their examinations in our purpose-built dance studio, each year in September.
