Our faculty consists of fully-qualified and experienced Royal Academy of Dance ( RAD ) Registered Teachers, including the 1st RAD Examiner from Singapore. The calibre of our teachers is reflected in their professional appointments. Ms Tan Eng Ai
Principal RAD RTS

Ms. Tan Eng Ai was the first Singaporean to be awarded teaching diplomas from both the RAD and ISTD Dance Examination Boards, and was thus the first ballet teacher in Singapore to achieve Registered Teacher status with these leading UK-government recognized dance-awarding bodies in England.
She has more than 40 years of dance teaching experience in Malaysia and Singapore, and has produced and choreographed for all the concerts by our ballet school. Besides teaching and preparing students for the annual examinations, Ms. Tan coaches trainee-teachers towards their professional teaching examinations and qualifications.
Among the ballet teachers whom Ms. Tan has mentored over the years are Teo Ching Ching ( Vice-Principal & RAD Examiner ), Vanessa Dewi Harijanto ( Instructor ), Lesley McCallum ( now teaching in Australia ) and several other teachers in Singapore and Malaysia.
Ms. Tan is currently appointed as a Mentor and Practical Teaching Supervisor by the RAD Faculty of Education. As a RAD PTS, she assesses the classroom teaching of trainee ballet teachers who are enrolled in the Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies ( CBTS ) distance-learning programme.
Ms. Tan is honoured to be awarded Life Membership of the RAD, on account of her continued service & dedication to the Academy.

Ms Teo Ching

Miss Teo Ching Ching
is a RAD Examiner. She holds a Master of Arts ( MA ) degree in Dance
from UCLA and a Bachelor of Arts ( Honours ) degree in Dance from
the University of Buckingham. She was awarded UCLA Fellowships and
National Arts Council ( NAC ) Overseas Arts Bursaries towards her
post-graduate studies in the USA. Miss Teo achieved qualified Registered
Teacher Status with the RAD and ISTD, & has diplomas from both
examination boards.
Her choreography has
won Gold and Silver Awards at the Singapore Youth Festival ( SYF
) Central Judging for Dance, in the category of International Dance.
She has created dances for concerts staged by University High School
in West Los Angeles, Palais Dance Studio, Methodist Girls School
( Primary & Secondary ) and Paya Lebar Methodist Girls School
( Primary.)
Miss Teo choreographed
and performed in professional productions by the Singapore Lyric
Opera ( SLO.) Appointed as the first RAD Practical Teaching Supervisor
( PTS ) in Singapore in 2001, Miss Teo had assessed the practical
teaching of trainee-teachers working on their RAD & university-validated
teaching qualifications.
She has been appointed
as a Tutor for the RAD Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies (
CBTS ) programme since its launch in our region in 2005. Miss Teo
has assessed trainee ballet teachers in South-East Asia in their
distance-learning studies. She has also conducted Intensive Study
Period ( ISP ) for CBTS students in ASEAN.
Miss Teo has lectured on Dance Science at the LaSalle College of the Arts, and currently lectures on Dance Pedagogy. She has also been an External Assessor of Ballet.
Miss Teo is delighted to be appointed as an Approved Tutor for the new RAD Grades 1 to 3 ballet examination syllabus.

Ms Vanessa Dewi
Harijanto

Ms. Vanessa Dewi Harijanto is an experienced & qualified RAD Registered Teacher (RAD RTS) and holds the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Dance Education degree validated by the University of Surrey. She was four years old when she started her first formal ballet lessons with our Principal, Ms. Tan Eng Ai.
Under Ms. Tan's guidance, Vanessa achieved
excellent results of 'Honours' or 'Distinction' for all her RAD
Grades ballet examinations, from Primary level to the Grade 8 Award.
Vanessa passed her RAD Advanced 1 Vocational Examination in 2005,
& has also been examined in ISTD Imperial Ballet & Modern
dance.
Following her RAD Elementary Examination in
1995, Vanessa assisted Ms. Tan with some of her ballet classes.
After obtaining a degree in Business Administration from the National
University of Singapore, Vanessa was keen to continue her education
in dance & dance teaching. She achieved her RAD RTS under Ms.
Tan's mentorship.
Vanessa has professional experience as a dancer,
in 'The Merry Widow' ( 2004 ) production by the Singapore Lyric
Opera. She is concurrently an Instructor for the RAD Ballet Programme
at PLMGS Primary, under the overall direction of our Vice-Principal,
Miss Teo Ching Ching. |

Palais Dance Studio has
been a venue for the RAD Summer Schools, since they were first offered
in Singapore in 1989. Some of our top pupils have won awards for
'Outstanding Potential', 'Outstanding Dancer' and 'Significant Improvement'
at the Summer School.
In the year 2000 RAD Summer School, 7 pupils
of Ms. Tan and Miss Teo were
selected for the OKH Dance Scholarship
Classes. These young ballet
dancers included Tan Sue Lyn ( kneeling,
left ) and Lim Yicai ( kneeling, right.)
Sue Lyn has since achieved
the rare honour of Distinction results for all her
RAD Grades examinations
from Primary to the Grade 8 Award. Yicai was
also awarded Distinctions
for all her RAD Grades examinations,
including the perfect score
of 100%
for her RAD Grade 5 exam.
Palais Dance Studio is the
national venue for the annual
RAD Vocational Graded Examinations. Candidates from
ballet schools all over Singapore
do their examinations in
our purpose-built dance studio, each year in
August-September.
